The fourth session of the university-wide course "Career Design for Researchers: Learning about Future Choices from Researcher Cases" was a lecture by Associate Professor Junko Morimoto of the Faculty of Agriculture, titled "Adapting to Climate Change by Utilizing the Ecology of Disturbance and Regeneration."
They conduct research using fieldwork-based methods, taking a broad view of forest ecosystems to understand what is happening in forests and how humans can use them appropriately. One of their research themes is how disasters such as earthquakes affect forests and how humans should cope with them.
Professor Morimoto also shared his research career path, explaining how he has gained diverse experience in multiple research laboratories both domestically and internationally. He mentioned that because his partner is also a researcher, they couldn't always live together due to respecting each other's research careers, but now they are able to live together as a family, including their children. The students who attended the lecture likely gained an understanding of the breadth of his research, including its connection to the forest ecosystem and the personal experience of earthquake disasters.
