We held the first session of our "Let's visit various research labs and talk to doctoral students" research lab tour and discussion event.

The second session of the "Let's visit various research labs and talk with doctoral students" research lab visit and discussion event was held on Wednesday, May 22nd, at the Advanced Materials Hybrid Engineering Laboratory of the Graduate School of Engineering , with two graduate students participating: one master's student and one doctoral student.

For this lab tour and discussion session, we were joined by two doctoral students from the Yonezawa Laboratory. After introductions, Professor Yonezawa gave a presentation tailored to the participants' backgrounds, focusing on his research in "Applications of Metal Nanoparticle Materials to Medical and Life Sciences," and offered advice on how to approach pursuing a doctoral degree.

We were given a tour of the laboratory, and afterwards, four graduate students held a roundtable discussion on the theme of "doctoral studies." They each spoke about what they wanted to learn in their doctoral studies, the role of doctoral students in the research lab, and what they wanted to do in the future, and they gave each other comments and advice.

The participating students seemed to have gained more flexibility in their thinking about doctoral programs by listening to faculty and students from fields they wouldn't normally encounter, and their motivation was boosted by talking with fellow doctoral students who are dedicated to research within the university.

This project was designed with the aim of "promoting advancement to doctoral programs" and "fostering interdisciplinary understanding and exchange." This year's program was a trial run, but we plan to improve it in the future to make it an even better program. Professors interested in accepting students, and students who would like to participate, please contact the Women Researchers Support Office (freshu@synfoster.hokudai.ac.jp)!

I received a detailed explanation about the research facilities from a doctoral student in the Yonezawa Laboratory.
