The 10th session of the university-wide course "Career Design for Researchers: Learning about Future Choices from Researcher Cases" was a lecture by Associate Professor Tomoko Komagawa of the Graduate School of Education, titled "Career and Gender: Research on Gender Equality in the Workplace."
Professor Komagawa witnessed firsthand the reality of gender discrimination in job hunting upon graduating from university, and this experience led her to pursue a career as a researcher with the desire to solve gender-related social issues.
Your area of expertise is labor sociology, and you particularly research careers and gender.
In class, we conducted group work using newspaper articles as material, employing gender as an analytical perspective.
Through the workshop, participants realized that feminine or masculine language is chosen in accordance with the gender roles expected by the recipient (society), and it seems to have given them an opportunity to become aware of gender bias hidden in everyday life.
Companies that provide a comfortable working environment for women are organizations with a solid management system that allows work to be completed without relying on long working hours, and they also provide a comfortable working environment for men. We were also introduced to methods for finding such companies using databases.
