On December 21st (Saturday), the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology held a lecture and hands-on event for junior high school students titled "Let's explore data science that will create the future," designed to introduce and familiarize students with AI and data science.
When we announced participation in this event in July, we received more than six times the number of applications compared to the capacity, so we held a second event for those who were not selected.
First, Professor Miki Haseyama of the Graduate School of Information Science gave a lecture titled "The Future Expanded by Image Processing: Cutting-Edge Research Leading to an Exciting Future." It offered a glimpse into the future that will be transformed by image processing and AI!
Next, Naoko Mori from KDDI Corporation's Hokkaido Branch told us about the history of communication systems, how cutting-edge technologies are being used, and what the future holds for 5G.
In the afternoon, we had a lecture and practical session led by Associate Professor Takahiro Ogawa of the Graduate School of Information Science. The practical session was fascinating, involving looking inside a computer and trying out an application currently under development. We also toured the research labs at the Graduate School of Information Science and experienced cutting-edge research equipment.
Parents listened to a lecture by Professor Miki Haseyama titled "Will Future Jobs Emerge? – Considering the Skills Needed in 2030." They listened intently as she discussed what will be necessary and what will disappear in the future, given how AI will increase what we can do.
It was a valuable day for parents and children to get a glimpse into cutting-edge learning.
