Sumitomo Life Insurance is pleased to announce its "5nd Future-Building Childcare Project - Support for Female Researchers."
[Purpose]
This grant provides support to female researchers who are finding it difficult to continue their research due to childcare responsibilities, as well as to female researchers who are continuing their research while raising children, to help them maintain and continue their research and living environments. The grant is intended to foster the development of nascent research in the humanities and social sciences.
[Regulations]
1. Having a meaningful research topic in the field of humanities or social sciences.
2. As a general rule, applicants must be raising a preschool-aged child (a child who has not yet started elementary school) at the time of application.
3. As a general rule, applicants must hold a master's degree or be enrolled in or have obtained a doctoral degree.
4. You must have at least 2 recommenders (one of whom must be a supervisor or head of the university or research institute where you have worked or will work).
5. You are currently affiliated with a university, research institute, etc., or intend to be.
6. This support is limited to those who have not received research grants from other award or grant programs during the year in which they are receiving support (childcare leave benefits, etc., do not qualify as research grants).
7. Nationality is not a requirement, but applications must be submitted in Japanese.
*This program aims to support individuals who are growing as researchers while raising children, rather than focusing on past achievements. Therefore, we will not judge candidates solely on their research content.

Support for female researchers: Approximately 10 people
We will provide a grant of up to 1 million yen per year for a maximum of two years. The grant period is scheduled to be two years, from April 2012 to March 2014.
