Hello, this is the Diversity Research Environment Promotion Office (Ree-D).
As we have been announcing since earlier, the "Interdisciplinary Meetup Week 2020" (scheduled for November 30th - December 4th) is finally next week. However, in light of the situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel the in-person event planned for Hokkaido University campus.
We are preparing to offer the event online, so please take a look at the seminar information below in addition to the poster.
During this period, we will be hosting online seminars in various fields, researcher communication salons, and role model roundtables. We are still accepting applications, so please join us!

"Networking of Diverse Sexualities: Our Future Woven by Sex, Gender, and Sexuality Research and Education"
This lunch salon offers a frank exchange of ideas about research and education on diversity, together with the program planner who was selected for Hokkaido University's "Excellent Teachers in General Education Courses" for two consecutive years, 30 and 2, for the course "Our World: Thinking about Sex, Gender, and Sexuality." Using this course and the graduate-level course "Introduction to Gender Studies" as examples, we will introduce the dynamics of diversity unique to interdisciplinary omnibus courses, the joys of steering them, the diverse backgrounds of the students taking the course and the varying levels of their expectations for the course, and think about the future of diversity together with the participants, building a friendly network.
Faculty, students, and the general public are all welcome. You are free to enter and leave the salon at any time.

Let's talk about glycan research!
What are glycans? What functions do they perform? If you have these questions, why not join us and deepen your knowledge about glycans?
The surface of the cells that make up our bodies is covered with countless sugar chains. Proteins, which play a central role in life processes, and lipids that make up cell membranes also contain many sugar chains! If we can decipher the code of these complex sugar chains, it should hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of life.
In this salon, researchers who have been interested in and researching glycans will share their insights into the fascinating world of glycan research.
Whether you have experience in glycan research or not, let's come together and explore the fascinating world of glycans.

Professor Park, who belongs to the Department of Science and Technology Communication Education and Research (CoSTEP) at Hokkaido University, is an artist who creates art pieces.
Professor Park may be a rare figure among the professors at Hokkaido University. He will introduce and talk about his work and his thoughts on science and technology communication at Hokkaido University.

"KNIT a Network! Researcher Exchange Meeting: Role Model Roundtable" is an event that invites various guests involved in the world of science and research, and interviews them about their lives and work.
The 11th event will be held during the Interdisciplinary Meetup Week 2020, which runs from November 30th to December 4th. Titled "Meetup Week SPECIAL!!", it will be held online (via Zoom) during lunchtime on Thursday, December 3rd.
For this roundtable discussion, we welcome Hyun-Jung Park, Project Assistant Professor at the CoSTEP (Cosmic Science and Technology Program) of the Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education, Hokkaido University.
Professor Park, who conducts practical research at Hokkaido University on science and technology communication through art, the connection between art and local communities, and international exchange, has earned a doctorate in Sculpture. Her research results are sometimes outputted as "works of art." Currently, she is working on an art project called "Anoonshitsu" in a greenhouse on the Sapporo campus of Hokkaido University, and this time we bring you a role model roundtable discussion from this greenhouse.

Have you ever felt frustrated when trying to explain your research to experts in other fields or company representatives because your message wasn't properly conveyed?
Have you ever felt frustrated or unsure how to express yourself when preparing documents for research grant applications or project proposals?
This time, we'll be welcoming researchers from multiple fields and company representatives who frequently collaborate with industry, academia, and government on joint research projects. They will teach us how to write effective research summaries that clearly communicate research to external audiences, and highlight key points to consider.

"Methodology for Launching Research and Development-Oriented Ventures Originating from Hokkaido and Universities"
In Japan, too, the social importance of university-based research and development ventures is beginning to be widely recognized.
On the other hand, it has been reported that there are fewer university-launched ventures in Hokkaido compared to other regions. In an era where diverse paths are needed for both university research results and researchers, the significance of university-launched ventures is growing.
In this seminar, the lecturer, who has launched a bio-venture originating from Hokkaido University as an entrepreneur and also works as an investor in venture capital, will offer suggestions for enhancing the university-based R&D venture ecosystem in Hokkaido.

"Let's explore your different fields together: A workshop based on a 100-person thesis from Tsukuba University"

Are you having trouble with this?
The 100-person paper project brings together researchers who don't know each other, sharing their strengths and challenges in their research. It has fostered many valuable connections across different fields.
This time, we've invited the organizer of the same project at Tsukuba University to lead a thinking workshop that will help you expand your ideas by looking at things and concepts that seem to have nothing in common at first glance. It might even be useful for research exchange and everyday research considerations!
