1. Selection of themes for the 2021 KNIT Joint Research Grant.
We are pleased to announce that the themes selected for the 2021 KNIT Joint Research Grant, one of the projects under the Diversity Research Environment Realization Initiative (Leading Type) jointly implemented by six Hokkaido institutions (KNIT partner institutions: Hokkaido University, Muroran Institute of Technology, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Kitami Institute of Technology, Nitto Denko Corporation, and Amino Up Co., Ltd.), have been decided.
This research grant aims to cultivate research personnel who can meet and collaborate with researchers from diverse fields to pursue new areas and manage collaborative research.
Fourteen themes were selected for the 2021 academic year.

3. [Online Program] What is the "Otsuka Prize," an award given to outstanding female students who have obtained a doctoral degree? (2 parts total)
On Thursday, May 27th and Thursday, June 3rd, we will present a two-part program of role model roundtable discussions as part of our "Otsuka Award Special."
In the first installment, we bring you an interview with Professor Eiko Otsuka, Professor Emeritus of our university and the namesake of the Otsuka Prize, together with Associate Professor Kaori Shigetomi (Kuribayashi) of Nitobe College. We asked her about her journey from being a member of the first graduating class of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Hokkaido University to her current career as a researcher, and she also shared a message for us.
Furthermore, we also interviewed recipients of the 2020 Hokkaido University Otsuka Prize, asking them about their research themes, their reasons for pursuing doctoral studies, and much more.
The event will be held during lunchtime, and you are free to come and go as you please, so please feel free to join us.

4. [On-Demand Streaming] Announcement of the Information Design & Communication Seminar for Basic Researchers: Connecting with Society (Repost)
The seminar held in March on "Research Development Through Collaboration with Others" is now available for on-demand viewing. (Registration is required to view.)
This is recommended for those who don't yet have plans for collaborative research but want to know more, those who think there might be a possibility in the near future, those who are having trouble creating connections that could lead to collaboration, and those who want to know how to communicate their research to people outside their field of expertise.

5. Information on the publicly available video for the university-wide general education course "Gender Studies" at Kyoto University.
The Kyoto University Center for Gender Equality has made eight lecture videos from the 2020 university-wide general education course "Gender Studies" available on the Center's website. Each lecture covers a different theme and features a diverse range of instructors, offering a rich and engaging learning experience.
