The FD/SD training conducted via Zoom attracted approximately 60 participants, including not only those from the organizing body, the Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences, but also from other departments such as the Graduate School of Health Sciences and the Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, demonstrating the high level of interest in diversity management.
In a lecture by specially appointed professor Noriko Nagahori titled "Unraveling Hokkaido University's Diversity Through Numbers," the current situation at Hokkaido University was presented.
Participants raised concerns about how the performance disadvantages faced by female researchers due to maternity leave and other factors should be evaluated, and how to address the situation where administrative communications for foreign researchers and international students are often in Japanese, forcing departments and laboratories to handle these matters internally.
In her lecture, "Student Education for the Era of Diversity," Minako Shimatani addressed topics such as consideration for human rights in recruitment activities and diversity management in companies.
Participants asked questions about career paths for LGBTQ+ students, which led to a discussion about the need for consideration and support for such students.
