IEEE Sapporo Section Women in Engineering Opening Event Announcement
We are pleased to announce that the IEEE Sapporo Section Women in Engineering Affinity Group, which we have been preparing for some time, was approved by IEEE Headquarters in August 2007 and officially established. This organization, the first of its kind within the Japan Council, was established in the Sapporo Section to provide various support and opportunities for female researchers, including research activities and talent development. We anticipate the establishment of similar groups in other sections throughout Japan.
Therefore, to commemorate the establishment, we will be holding an opening event as follows. At the opening event, we will have a lecture by Professor Akinori Nishihara (Professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology), who has provided us with support for this establishment, as well as a panel discussion, which will be the first event organized by the Sapporo Section Women in Engineering (WIE). We plan to have a lively discussion on the current situation and challenges of female researchers, with female researchers active in universities and companies as panelists. We would like to ask as many researchers and students as possible to participate, regardless of whether they are IEEE members or not, and regardless of gender.
