Announcement of Call for Applications for the 3rd "L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Japan Fellowship"
[Purpose] Inheriting the philosophy of L'Oréal-UNESCO's global collaborative project supporting women scientists, this award encourages young Japanese female researchers who will shape the future to continue their research. This award provides support for continuing research at educational and research institutions within Japan.
[Eligibility] This program is for women under 40 years old who are currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in a doctoral program (postgraduate course) in the fields of life sciences or materials sciences. (Please see the website below for details.)
[Number of Grant Awards] Two awards (two recipients) will be selected each year from the fields of life sciences and materials sciences, for a total of four awards (four recipients). Each recipient will receive a certificate of merit and a scholarship of 1 million yen.
[Application Period] November 12, 2007 (Mon) - February 29, 2008 (Fri) (Postmarks dated on or before the deadline are valid)
[How to Apply] Please clearly mark the envelope with "L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Japan Fellowship Application Documents" and mail the required documents listed below to the "L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Japan Fellowship" Secretariat.
(1) Required application documents
– Application form (2 copies)
Application guidelines and application forms can be accessed from the L'Oréal Japan website (please refer to the website below).
– Resume (with a passport-sized photo attached) - Copies acceptable, 2 copies
– Two letters of recommendation from your academic advisor
– Summary of previous research (2 pages or less, A4 size) 2 copies
– Research topic for the next year, its outline, and future prospects (A4 size, no more than 2 pages) 2 copies
– List of published papers (including oral presentations) All author names should be listed whenever possible. 2 copies.
– Reprints of the paper (copies acceptable), 2 copies each
① Up to three previously published or upcoming papers (with Acceptance Letter attached)
② Conference presentation paper (abstract)
*If you do not have the documents listed in ① or ② above, you may substitute them with your master's thesis.
- One official postcard (with return address and recipient's name clearly written on it)

[Selection Process] The selection committee will make the selection by mid-2008, and applicants will be notified of the results.
