On December 18th (Saturday), the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, in collaboration with the KDDI Foundation, held an interactive science experiment workshop for junior high school students titled "How to Make a Robot That 'Feels' and Moves."
When we sent out notices to junior high schools in Sapporo, we received more than three times the number of applications as there were available spots. Nine students were selected by lottery to participate.
Associate Professor Koichi Kobayashi of the Graduate School of Information Science served as the instructor. After explaining the content, the participants first assembled a wheeled mobile robot. After completing the robot, with support from graduate student teaching assistants, they programmed the robot and repeatedly adjusted it so that it would move without deviating from the black lines drawn on paper as instructed.
On that day, we were able to truly feel the high level of public interest, as many media outlets came to cover the event.
Furthermore, the participant survey results were very positive, so we would like to continue implementing this project in the future.
Even if you weren't selected in this lottery, please apply again next time the event is held.
