On October 10, 2022 (Monday, a national holiday), Sapporo Rainbow Pride, the university's officially recognized LGBTQ+ circle "Niji no Tsudoi," and the Hokkaido University Diversity and Inclusion Promotion Headquarters co-hosted a screening of the film "Katasode no Sakana" (The One-Sleeved Fish).
We accepted advance reservations, but there were also many walk-in participants on the day, which showed the high level of interest, and it also had the aspect of being an event that people could easily participate in.
On the day of the event, there were participants from all walks of life, not just university students, but people of all ages.
Approximately 150 people gathered in the auditorium of the Hokkaido University Academic Exchange Hall.
The films screened included four works by director Takeshi Shoji, including "The One-Sleeved Fish."
Following that, there was a talk show featuring director Shoji, Yu Ishizuka (star of "The One-Sleeved Fish"), Sapporo Rainbow Pride, and members of the Rainbow Gathering.
Thanks to the lively hosting by Teruko Mitsushima of Sapporo Rainbow Pride, the event was a great success.

For me, the mere fact that I was able to see these works and rainbow flags on campus is significant. Seeing them makes us aware, and being aware leads to discussion. Discussions about affirmative action may not immediately lead to satisfactory results, but I believe progress is nurtured through the clash of ideas that arise from them. That's why I sincerely hope that these kinds of activities become more widely known and discussed.
