By conducting bystander training conducted by the Institute for Gender Studies, a general incorporated association, with a practical program structure combining pre-training video viewing, lectures, and role-playing, we were able to provide faculty and staff with an opportunity to acquire knowledge about the importance of having knowledge about discrimination and harassment, as well as the significance and mindset required for third-party intervention when problems arise.
This faculty development (FD) training was conducted as a full-service FD program for all faculty members of the Faculty of Letters, with approximately 70% of the faculty participating. Furthermore, it was broadly implemented for faculty and staff of participating departments within the Faculty of Letters, including the Ainu and Indigenous Studies Center, the Human Intelligence, Brain and AI Research and Education Center, and the Social Science Experimental Research Center. As a result, it provided practical awareness-raising and training on promoting diversity and inclusion, including bystander elements, for a large number of faculty and staff.
