On Wednesday, December 6th, with the support of the Hokkaido University Library,DEIThe Promotion Headquarters hosted a new event, "Book Talk - Let's Talk with Popular Authors."
A "book talk" is usually a session where a book talker introduces various books based on a single theme, but this time we've changed the format and created an opportunity for the author and students to talk about the content of the theme book.
For this first session, we have invited Professor Kaku Sechiyama from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo.
The book chosen for the talk is "Gender Theory as Seen Through Controversial Commercials."
We asked Assistant Professor Satoko Watanabe of the Institute for Media and Communication Studies to serve as the moderator.
The student presenters were asked to read the relevant books in advance and then give their presentations.
Following that, we asked Professor Sechiyama to give a lecture that included feedback.
Regarding the themed book, the university library only has one copy available for loan.
One area for improvement is that it was difficult for everyone to read the material beforehand.
For the second and subsequent events, we will use this experience to make them even better.
