Faculty Development Lecture: "Policies and Challenges for Women's Advancement in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Tokyo University of Science"

Hokkaido University is implementing the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Diversity Research Environment Realization Initiative (Female Leader Development Type)," which was adopted last year, and is promoting the active recruitment of female researchers, their promotion to higher positions, and efforts to broaden the base of female researchers.
This faculty development (FD) lecture will focus on the topics of "establishing quotas for women in entrance examinations" and "recruiting only women," which have garnered significant interest within our university. The lecture will be held online and will feature Professor Kaoru Kuwata, Vice President of Tokyo University of Science, as the speaker.

As part of its diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives, Tokyo Institute of Technology (now Tokyo University of Science) introduced a "women's quota" for its comprehensive selection and school recommendation-based selection processes for undergraduate students entering in April 2024, with the aim of increasing the proportion of female students.
This time, we will hear about the process leading up to the introduction of the "female admission quota" and the current situation after enrollment, as well as the Tokyo University of Science (Science and Engineering) case study, which will introduce the efforts and challenges being addressed to promote women's advancement, such as "women-only recruitment" to increase the number of female researchers.
We especially encourage those considering introducing a "female-only admission quota" or implementing a "women-only application process" to take this opportunity to participate.
