Report on the "Hokkaido University Faculty of Engineering All-Inclusive Experience Tour," an interactive science experiment workshop.

On December 26th (Thursday), at the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering hosted an event organized by the KDDI Foundation.DEIThe Promotion Headquarters co-sponsored an interactive science experiment workshop for junior high school students titled "The Buildings and Research Are So Vast! A Complete Experience Tour of Hokkaido University's Faculty of Engineering." [For details of the event, please see below.]CLICK HERE
When we sent out invitations to junior high schools in Sapporo, we received more applications than we had capacity for, and 38 students and their guardians were selected by lottery to participate.

The event began with an introduction to the Faculty of Engineering and a lecture by Professor Taeko Matsuura (Graduate School of Engineering), followed by participants being divided into three teams—"Materials Mechanics," "Nuclear Environmental Materials Science," and "Medical Engineering"—to experience experiments. After lunch at the Faculty of Engineering cafeteria, the afternoon session included an explanation of LINAC (linear accelerator) and a tour of the ultra-high voltage electron microscope. Finally, the event concluded successfully with a Q&A session between the junior high school students and their parents, and faculty members and graduate students.
The day was packed with activities from morning till evening, and I think we were able to see and experience firsthand some of the wide range of research being conducted by the Faculty of Engineering.
Participants commented, "It was a very valuable experience in choosing my future career path," and "I really enjoyed talking with the students and teachers. It was great to be able to speak so openly," indicating that they had a fulfilling time.

Our science experiment workshops receive a large number of applications every year, and this year was no exception, with a high competition rate.
The participant survey results were very positive, so we hope to continue implementing this project in the future.
Even if you weren't selected in this lottery, please apply again next time the event is held.
