On Monday, March 3rd, a career path event for female students, "Woman's Career Canvas ~The Future Career Vision of Female Students~" (co-sponsored by the Diversity and Inclusion Promotion Headquarters, the Graduate School Education Promotion Organization, and the Collaborative Project Center for Co-creation Education), was held at the Enreisou Garden at Hokkaido University.
This event was held as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Diversity Research Environment Realization Initiative (Female Leader Development Type)" subsidy program for developing human resources in science and technology, with the aim of supporting female undergraduate and graduate students in pursuing doctoral degrees. Approximately 20 female undergraduate and graduate students participated. In presentations by doctoral students Marie Hino and Shiori Miyamoto, they spoke about the reasons why they chose to pursue graduate studies and their research activities during their doctoral studies.
In addition, to showcase diverse career paths after graduation, we invited two role models who are alumni of our university to speak. Asako Kadota, who works as a managing director in the manufacturing and distribution sectors of a company, spoke about how she thinks about her career while working and how she takes action to realize it, as well as how she balances work and childcare. Yumi Nishiyama, President and CEO of TENSHIN Co., Ltd., spoke about her experience working for a company and then starting her own business after obtaining her master's degree, and the reasons why she aimed to obtain an MBA and a doctoral degree when considering her career.
In the latter half of the event, in addition to the speakers, role models such as researchers and alumni currently affiliated with the university joined in, and time was set aside for the participating undergraduate and graduate students to converse and listen attentively to advice from their seniors.
In a very relaxed atmosphere, everyone enjoyed a fun and meaningful time, and it became an opportunity to expand their network.
