This is an announcement for the "2025 Gender Equality Week Lecture: Towards Work in Life - Contemporary Challenges for Women in the Workplace," hosted by the Hokkaido Prefectural Women's Plaza.

Working is not just about earning money; it also has great significance, such as gaining a sense of purpose.
However, in present-day Japan, the division of gender roles, where "men work and women stay at home," is strong and overlaps with the gender stereotypes of "masculinity" and "femininity." As a result, women's wages and careers are often suppressed, while men are expected to lead a work-centered life.
Furthermore, women are often forced to make choices such as quitting their jobs or adjusting their working styles due to marriage, childbirth and childcare, or caregiving responsibilities.
We need a work-in-life approach that positions work as an integral part of life and living, including whether or not one chooses to work.
Let's use the contemporary challenges women face in the workplace as a starting point to consider together what is needed to create a society where everyone can be themselves and value both their work and family life.
