The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Washington Research Liaison Center (JSPS) and the National Science Foundation are co-sponsoring the 2nd Japan-U.S. Symposium on Women Researchers, and are seeking approximately seven Japanese participants. This symposium is a successor to the Japan-U.S. Symposium "Connections: Bringing Together the Next Generation of Women Leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics," which was co-sponsored by the National Women's Education Center and the National Science Foundation in July 2010.
This time, with keywords such as "information science, cognition, genome sequencing, pattern recognition, materials science, biomimetics, and large-scale data," we will bring together promising female researchers from Japan and the United States who are active in various basic science fields to discuss the creation of new academic fields through interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation, including joint research between Japan and the United States, and strategies for contributing to and developing social infrastructure from basic research. We aim to build an intellectual and personal network of female researchers that will be at the core of promoting and developing these efforts, thereby empowering female researchers and promoting their actual success.
