This is an announcement for the public symposium hosted by the Science Council of Japan, titled "How Should Universities Address Diversity? – Innovation, Human Rights, and Intersectionality."
-------------------------------

How should universities address "diversity" in order to be a safe and secure environment for all members from diverse backgrounds to study, research, and educate? Until now, the promotion of "diversity" in universities has mainly been carried out through the appointment of women and the active acceptance of international students, and the view that promoting "diversity" is essential for the development of academia, such as innovation, has been emphasized. This symposium will not promote diversity solely from the perspective of such usefulness, but will instead discuss from multiple perspectives how universities should address "diversity" and the responsibilities of universities, based on the awareness that the essential mission of universities is to guarantee human rights and pursue truth.
