[Event] A symposium will be held to commemorate the opening of the Hokkaido University Women Researchers Support Office.

The Office for Supporting Female Researchers officially opened on July 1st! In the context of the university-wide efforts toward gender equality, the office will plan, develop, and promote various support measures to address issues specific to female researchers, and will also function as a one-stop shop for various support services. The FY2006 Science and Technology Promotion Coordination Fund's new commissioned project, "Shine, Female Researchers! Plan to Utilize, Nurture, and Support Them at Hokkaido University," which had its start date postponed, also began on the 14th.

To commemorate the opening of the support office and the commencement of the commissioned project for promotion and coordination, a symposium will be held at the Academic Exchange Hall on July 25th. Attractive topics related to the advancement of female researchers will be presented from both within and outside the university. We encourage you to attend.

Professor Junko Kawamura, who will be giving the special lecture, visited Hokkaido University last August in her previous position as Director-General of the Science and Technology Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. During that visit, she also attended an exchange of opinions with female researchers, which was an important opportunity for the establishment of the support office.

Another person, Ms. Miwako Doi, Technical Supervisor at Toshiba Research & Development Center, is a wonderful role model who has advanced her career in the highly competitive field of corporate research and development while navigating marriage, childbirth, and child-rearing.

Short reports from young female researchers within the university will also highlight the current situation and challenges faced by female researchers. We encourage everyone, regardless of gender—faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students—to participate.

  • Date and Time: Tuesday, July 25th, 14:00-16:00
  • Location: Small Auditorium, Academic Exchange Hall, Hokkaido University
