The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has already launched its Special Research Fellowship - RPD (Return-to-Research Fellowship for Researchers Who Have Interrupted Their Research Due to Childbirth or Childcare) program. The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is also starting a program within its Strategic Creative Research Promotion Program to support researchers returning to research after life events (childbirth, childcare, and elder care), and has begun accepting applications for the second half of FY18. For details, please see documents 1) to 3) below.

Reference Q&A (excerpted from JST's website)
- Q: Is it possible to interrupt and resume research during the PRESTO program due to so-called life events (childbirth, childcare, caregiving)?
- A: If a PRESTO researcher experiences a life event during their research period, they may, after consulting with their research supervisor, suspend their research for a certain period determined for each life event, and then resume it. In this case, JST will provide an amount equal to the unused research funds due to the suspension of research, after the research has resumed.
