On December 17th, at the Hokkaido University Academic Exchange Hall,Sapporo Science Festa 2016 at Hokkaido UniversityThe event "[Event Name]" was held.NPO ButukuraThis event was co-sponsored by the "Hokkaido University Women Researchers Support Office Science and Engineering Support Caravan Team".
The venue featured 10 science experience booths run by university students and researchers from 8 departments of Hokkaido University, as well as 10 booths from high school science clubs in Sapporo and Takikawa. Visitors were free to experience the booths that interested them. Every booth was designed to be fun for participants, and cheers could be heard from all over. It was also impressive to see how the booth exhibitors seemed to enjoy explaining things, even though they were busy with long lines.
In addition, RinGS, a community of female science students at Hokkaido University, set up a booth offering career counseling for junior high school girls on science-related fields, and junior high school students were constantly seeking advice.
After the public exhibition ended, a roundtable discussion was held to facilitate interaction between the exhibiting university students and researchers and high school students. This roundtable discussion was one of the main objectives of the event and was very well received by the exhibitors. During the discussion, questions were asked about the booths, and participants spoke candidly about university life, entrance exams, and other related topics.
This event, now in its fifth year, has seen a steady increase in attendance, reaching a record high of 975 people this time. While we would love to promote it more and encourage more people to participate, we are also facing the dilemma of the venue's capacity reaching its limit.
