This is Nakatsuji from the Women Researchers Support Office. It's a lovely blizzard, perfect for spring. I'm glad I put off changing my tires.

North Tech Foundation Research Grant for Young Researchers
The North Tech Foundation , located near Hokkaido University's North Campus, provides various grants for industry-academia-government collaborative research, and has recently opened applications for two types of research grants targeting researchers under 40 years old (postdocs and above). The amounts are not particularly large, but the grants are said to be easy to use. If you have a good idea, why not give it a try?
- Grant for the Development of Young Research Talent and Networks (Non-Talent Grant)
- Research Seed Discovery Grant (Sapporo Talent Grant)
The Sapporo Talent Subsidy appears to be funded by the city of Sapporo and is limited to researchers affiliated with institutions in the Sapporo area (it is unclear whether the Hakodate campus is included, so please contact the foundation for details).
There are many other research grants available, so please check them out!

Lecture "The Job of a Scientist and Career Development" - Visitors are welcome!
The Office for Supporting Female Researchers offers a lecture for undergraduate students titled "The Job of a Scientist and Career Development: Learning from the Career Histories of Female Researchers" on Tuesdays during the first period of the first semester.Course introduction webpage
As described on the course introduction page, out of the 15 lectures, 8 will be lectures introducing research and careers by female researchers in various fields, and the remaining lectures will focus on thinking about a career as a researcher.
Although this lecture is intended for undergraduate students, I believe graduate students, postdocs, and faculty members will also find the content valuable. Visitors are very welcome, so if you'd like to hear from other female researchers or would like an opportunity to reflect on your career planning, please come and observe.
When you come to visit, please say hello to Nagahori (the person who looks like an instructor sitting near the front entrance).
The rules regarding "leave related to a wife's childbirth" for male faculty and staff have changed slightly.
I believe faculty and staff have been notified, but as of April 1st, there have been some subtle changes to the "leave related to the birth of a wife's child" for male faculty and staff.
This is a combination of two existing types of leave, and the total number of days remains the same. The name has become more proactive, eliminating the need for comments like, "Childcare 'participation' leave? That sounds like something someone else would say." Plus, you can now freely divide and use the total of seven days of leave within the period.
Most of the readers of this email newsletter are women, so you won't be able to take advantage of this holiday, but if you have the opportunity, you might want to let a male faculty member know about it.
