1. Information on the "Self-Presentation Seminar: Fundamentals of International Science Management Skills"
This seminar will improve your ability to effectively communicate and present your research content, results, ideas, and your own research capabilities to researchers from different fields, future bosses, sponsors, and others. (The seminar will be conducted in English.)
There will also be time for participants to network, so please join us!

We are still looking for instructors for our science experiment workshops for junior and senior high school girls! If you are interested, please feel free to contact us for more information!

| Target | 15-30 female middle and high school students with a strong interest in science (parents may observe). Pre-registration required. |
| Place | Sapporo Campus, Hakodate Campus (basically rooms in the department or other area to which the lecturer belongs), or other cities/towns of your choice. |
| Constitution | A 30-50 minute lecture on the participant's research and career, a 60-120 minute practical session, and a 60 minute roundtable discussion (participation is optional for the instructor). |
| Content of the practical training | Practical training involving hands-on work and discussions related to one's own research. |
| Cost burden | Our office will cover the costs of consumables and TA personnel expenses. |

3. Announcement of the start of applications for the 13th L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Japan Fellowship for Fiscal Year 2018.
We are pleased to announce that applications for the above-mentioned position have now opened.
This award aims to encourage young Japanese female scientists, who will shape the future of Japanese science, to continue their research activities at educational and research institutions within Japan.
In 2017, Dr. Mika Watanabe, a dermatologist at the Department of Dermatology, Graduate School of Medicine, Hokkaido University, also received the award. (Click here to see photos from the 2017 award ceremony.)
The application period is from November 13, 2017 (Monday) to February 28, 2018 (Wednesday).

4. Information about the Nitobe School Event on November 25th
We have received information from Nitobe School regarding a school event to be held on November 25th, which we would like to share with you below.

1) 10:30-12:00 [Open to the public] Final session of the "Nitobe School III: Problem Solving" course (Applied Science Frontier Building, 1st and 2nd floors)
Students from the Nitobe School will present their solutions to refugee and immigration issues. This is a platform for the students to showcase the results of their studies. If you are interested in refugee and immigration issues, or in active learning-style courses for graduate students, we would be delighted if you could attend.
2) 13:30-15:15 [Open to the Public] Mentor Lecture (2nd floor, Applied Science Frontier Building)
Thirteen mentors from the Nitobe School will give lectures at two separate venues. Hokkaido University alumnae, who are active in various fields, will also be visiting the university to speak about global talent and their own experiences. Most of them are Hokkaido University alumni who have been active on a global scale. In addition to university professors and entrepreneurs, there are also members of parliament, and they are all in their 30s and 40s and actively working in the real world, belonging to companies such as Nomura Research Institute, Dentsu, Hitachi, Takenaka Civil Engineering, JT, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. We believe this will be of great benefit when you are thinking about your career.
