On January 31st, the first "Meet the FResHU" role model roundtable discussion was held in the Human Resources Development Headquarters conference room.
The speaker was Associate Professor Yoko Mitani of the Ecosystem Fluctuation Analysis Division, Hakodate Marine Biological Station, Aquatic Station, Northern Biosphere Field Science Center.
Eight people from within the university, including female researchers, doctoral students, and undergraduate students, participated in the event, where Professor Mitani spoke about her research and career path.
The slides included photographs of the seals being studied and scenes from the research vessel, showing the actual research process. We also heard about the reasons why women work and what it means for women to continue working, using data and the professor's own experiences.
During the information exchange, students asked questions about career paths, marriage, and childbirth for female researchers, allowing them to hear firsthand accounts from researchers that they don't usually have the chance to hear. The event took place in a very relaxed atmosphere while everyone ate their lunches.
Thank you very much to Professor Mitani for his presentation, and to everyone who participated.
The second event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 27th. We look forward to seeing you there!
