On Monday, June 25th, we held the 6th "Meet the FResHU" role model discussion. Our speaker this time was Junko Kobayashi, Lecturer in the Department of Histology and Cytology, Graduate School of Medicine.
Professor Kobayashi studied glycans, a relatively niche area within anatomy, specifically histology, and within that, the reproductive system, a field with a small research population. He shared how he has continued his research despite the challenges of securing funding and having papers with low impact factors due to the niche nature of his research.
Some of the things I've made a point of doing include applying for as many grants as possible, even if it's difficult to secure a large budget, and writing as many papers as I can.
The importance of "publishing at least one paper every year" was particularly emphasized, and the student participants seemed especially inspired. We also heard interesting stories, such as experiences of jumping into and participating in academic conferences in different fields.
Thank you very much, Professor Kobayashi and all the participants!
Next up: Role Model Roundtable Discussion, Part 7It's scheduled for July 13th! We look forward to seeing many of you there!
