We held a lecture and networking event for the recipients of the 30 Otsuka Prize.

On Friday, March 22nd, the 2018 Hokkaido University Otsuka Prize recipients' lecture and networking event was held in the large conference room of the Centennial Memorial Hall.
(The Otsuka Prize was established in 17 to nurture outstanding female students who aspire to become researchers. For more details, see...)CLICK HEREplease look at. )

The lecture series featured presentations by four award recipients: Mayumi Kamaguchi (Graduate School of Dentistry), Mika Kuroda (Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences), Akane Ito (Graduate School of Engineering), and Saori Haneda (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hokkaido University), who was an award recipient in 2009.
During the Q&A session with the speakers, we also received a question from Professor Emeritus Eiko Otsuka. Professor Otsuka recently participated in the "National Diversity Network Hokkaido Block Meeting Symposium," where she expressed concern about the still low number of female faculty members, while also noting that many principal investigators (PIs) from Hokkaido University are active throughout the country.
They also mentioned that they understand it's difficult to balance research and childcare, but that educating the next generation of children is of paramount importance to society, and they strongly encourage everyone to pursue both research and childcare.
The subsequent social gathering was a standing buffet party with Professor Emeritus Eiko Otsuka and the award recipients, where lively conversations took place in both Japanese and English.
