We held the "24 Hours in a College Student's Life" series, parts 1 and 2.

On Saturday, February 27th and Saturday, March 6th, 2021, we held an online event called "24 Hours in the Life of a University Student," which is part of our support program for female junior and senior high school students choosing science-related career paths.
This project was co-sponsored by the KDDI Foundation and the Diversity Research Environment Promotion Office of the Human Resource Development Headquarters at Hokkaido University, and was open to a wide audience including junior and senior high school students, parents, and teachers, regardless of gender.

We publicized the event to junior high and high schools throughout Hokkaido and recruited participants through a pre-registration system. As a result, we received a total of 187 applications over the two days (107 women and 80 men).

Two graduate students from our university (Ai Iwai, D1, Graduate School of Engineering; Aoi Sugiyama, D1, Graduate School of Life Science) filmed their research activities and daily life in the lab beforehand. On the day of the broadcast, two more graduate students (Ayane Miyazaki, D2, Graduate School of Science; Rina Kurihara, M2, Graduate School of Agriculture) joined them, and the four graduate students discussed their research lives while watching the filmed videos.
I discovered many things because the research environment differed depending on the department or laboratory I belonged to.

In the pre-event survey, there were questions about how to spend university life in general, how to maintain motivation for exam preparation, and study methods, and each of the participating graduate students shared their experiences. Many questions were also asked during the online event, and we answered as many as time allowed.

This event will be a series and will continue next year.
