Female researchers
Spinning the "warp threads"

In this support program, we believe that our female undergraduate and graduate students will appeal to female junior and senior high school students as role models, while at the same time, the female undergraduate and graduate students will also gain a great deal from both male and female junior and senior high school students. The support office, which also plays a part in supporting female graduate and undergraduate students' research challenges, sees both female undergraduate and graduate students and female junior and senior high school students as targets for development as "women researchers who will lead the next generation," and develops support activities with the aim of creating a double reflective effect for both female junior and senior high school students and female student staff.
Female undergraduate students, graduate students, and young postdocs have opportunities to present their research to their seniors and peers at academic conferences and seminars, both on and off campus. However, they rarely have the opportunity to communicate their interests and passions to younger generations. The experience of proactively organizing and hosting outreach events to clearly introduce and share their research with younger generations and the general public is an excellent opportunity to reaffirm their awareness and motivation for research, and is expected to greatly increase their sense of responsibility as researchers and their interest in teaching careers. We will also consider methods to more effectively communicate their own experiences of choosing science and engineering and the appeal of research at university, and aim to improve the communication skills of female students toward diverse career paths, including research positions.
Furthermore, within the network of female researchers that the support office is trying to build, we hope to weave together not only horizontal connections (horizontal threads) that transcend fields and departments, but also vertical connections (vertical threads) that transcend generations, from professors to postdocs, graduate students, undergraduates, and even junior and senior high school students. For this reason, we believe that support activities for female junior and senior high school students choosing science-related career paths, conducted by staff mainly composed of female students, are of great significance.
