About the Yoshie Katsurada Prize at Hokkaido University
Professor Yoshie Katsurada, Professor Emeritus of this university, after whom the "Yoshie Katsurada Award" is named, was a pioneer who forged her own path in an era when it was difficult for women to pursue high aspirations as researchers or to play an active role in society. This award was newly established in March 2023 to honor Professor Katsurada's achievements and to encourage female faculty members at this university to pursue research with enthusiasm, just like Professor Katsurada, and to foster the next generation of female leaders who will contribute to the development of society.
This award recognizes female faculty members (including specially appointed faculty) affiliated with this university who have conducted outstanding academic research and are expected to play an active role as future managers and other leadership positions. The purpose of this award is to encourage the female faculty members themselves and many others who follow in their footsteps, thereby promoting the appointment of women to higher positions and management roles. Recipients are selected through a rigorous review process based on recommendations from department heads and other relevant personnel, and the final decision is made by the President after deliberation by the Board of Directors.
