■ Purpose
This program provides financial assistance for research expenses to female researchers conducting basic research in natural sciences that contribute to improving human health. Its purpose is to support their return to research after interruptions due to childbirth and childcare, and to help them achieve research results.
■Applicant qualifications
1. Doctoral researchers who have achieved a certain level of research accomplishments and are engaged in original and enthusiastic basic research in natural sciences.
2. Female researchers whose return to work (expected date) is within 36 months of the date of childbirth.
* 1) If you will be returning to work in the future
The date and location of return must be clearly defined.
If you wish to return to work immediately after completing the 36-month contract, you must apply six months in advance.
* 2) If you have returned to work before applying.
You can apply if the period from the date of birth to the grant application deadline is within 36 months.
3. Attach a document that proves the date of birth (such as a copy of the maternal and child health handbook or birth certificate).
4. If you use your maiden name and it differs from the name on your birth certificate, attach documents proving that you are the same person.
5. You may not receive similar (or equivalent) grants from any other foundation during the same period.
6. Individuals belonging to the same classroom (course) as a member of the Foundation's selection committee are not eligible to apply.

Graduate School: Dean

Research Institute: Research Director
Other university organizations (research centers, research facilities, etc.): President
However, if there is a medical graduate school or a medical faculty, the recommendation must be from only one of them.
Note: Center directors, facility directors, and hospital directors cannot be recommenders.
2. Research institutions other than universities: The representative of a basic research institution approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors.

3. Directors, auditors, and councilors of this foundation
(Note: Selection committee members cannot be nominators.)
* Only one recommendation per recommender.
■ Deadline
Tuesday, June 1, 2010 (must arrive at the foundation by this date)
■ Selection method
* The selection committee will review the applications, obtain the consent of the Board of Trustees, and then make a final decision at the Board of Directors meeting.
■ Number of projects selected
* Number of projects selected: Up to 5
* The results of the selection process will be notified to the applicant and nominator in October 2010.
■ Grant amount
* 3 million yen per year for 300 years.
However, for the third year, the decision on whether to continue will be made based on an evaluation of the research results from the previous two years.
The research results from the two-year period will be submitted in a report by the end of September of the third year.
■Remittance period
* 1rd year: March 2011
* 2rd year: March 2012
* 3rd year: March 2013
■ Reporting Obligation
1. Regarding research results reports and expenditure reports: These must be submitted using the prescribed forms by the end of September 2012 (year 2) and the end of September 2013 (year 3).
2. Regarding external publications: When making external publications regarding this research, it must be clearly stated that it was supported by a grant from the Naito Foundation.
